Computer Engineering is to a large degree the intersection of Hardware and Software. Computer Engineering students learn about computers at all layers of abstraction - from the individual transistors at the chip level to the implementation of objected-oriented code. Computer Engineering can open many doors to a Hardware or Software career and can be tailored to fit a student's interests. Specialization in Embedded Systems, Networking, Robotics, and Control Systems is largely on the borderline between Hardware and Software. Successful engineers may find themselves in Telecommunications, Networking, Software Application Development testing & debugging, or Manufacturing, and different industries are emerging, such as Application Development, Web Development, Network Security / Cyber security, and Cloud Computing, among others. This type of education has good future potential as most industries rely on information technology.
