Civil Engineering is to a large degree the intersection of Design and Construction. Civil Engineering students learn about infrastructure at all layers of development—from the fundamental principles of material science to the implementation of large-scale structural projects. Civil Engineering can open doors to careers in Structural, Geotechnical, Transportation, or Environmental Engineering and can be tailored to fit a student's interests. Specialization in Construction Management, Hydraulics, Urban Planning, and Sustainable Development is largely on the borderline between Design and Execution. Successful engineers may find themselves in Infrastructure Development, Project Management, Structural Analysis, or Environmental Consulting, and different industries are emerging, such as Smart Cities Development, Green Building Technology, Disaster Management, and Transportation Engineering, among others. This type of education has good future potential as most industries and societies rely on sustainable and resilient infrastructure.
